RE-Fest grows at fairgrounds

With a lot more space, vendors, artisans and visitors, the annual RE-Fest event in Austin was quite bigger than it has been in the past.

The sixth annual event, which was previously held at Riverland Community College, moved to the Mower County Fairgrounds, where on Saturday hundreds of people gathered. RE-Fest, the green-living and clean-energy-promoting event, featured nearly 30 vendors and artisans, presentations and the ever-popular electronic recycling. For $5 per carload, people could drop off old computers, televisions and other electronics. A portion of the $5 donations will help Austin High School students put up solar panels at AHS.

Judy Enright, volunteer and RE-Fest committee member, said the event was bigger than last year, when there were just 12 vendors and artisans. She suspects RE-Fest will remain at the Mower County Fairgrounds and grow in years to come.
