Duplicate Bridge

Tournament results for Sept. 11 with four tables played: first-place tie, Marilyn Gesme and Milly Miller, and Bud Higgins and Jim Fisher; second, Orrion Roisen and Dave Ring; third-place tie, Edna Knobbe and Georgia Bissen, and Eunice Michaelis and Warren Behrends.

Duplicate Bridge is played each Wednesday at noon at the Mower County Senior Center in Austin. All Bridge players are welcome. Call Dave Ring at 507-434-4189 for partnership assistance or additional information.

Y’s Women

Y’s Women of the Hormel Historic Home began its new season Sept. 12.

Members enjoyed a delightful and fun day at Faribault.

Sharon Jensen led a tour of the Historic Alexander Faribault House. Members also toured the Woolen Mills, the Cheese Cave and visited several shops.

Lunch was at the Depot. The group dined outside and watched as the train ran by.

The next meeting will be 5 p.m. Oct. 10 at the Hormel Home. A chili supper will be served. The program will be presented by Janice Dervaecke.

 Women of the Moose

Women of the Moose sponsored a service on bullying at Austin Moose Lodge.

Speakers were Danielle Nesvold, chairman of Community Against Bullying, and Dewey Schara, principal of Neveln Elementary School. They talked about how the school system is dealing with this and how to help families and victims.

Some tips included teaching children to talk to you if there is a problem and how to help them be confident, stand up for themselves and look where bullying is coming from. They may have a personal problem of their own and are taking their own anger out on someone else. There are some upcoming events in October. Look for posters on CAB. See how you can handle this if it happened to your children or grandchildren.

At the end of the program, a check was presented by WOTM to help further CAB’s cause.

 Red Cedar DAR

At the Red Cedar’s next meeting on Thursday, Oct. 3, 7 p.m., at the Salvation Army, The Ambassadors, a group of students from the Minnesota State Academy for the Blind, Faribault, will talk about the history of the Academy and share some of their experiences of how they adapt to life with visual impairment.

The Red Cedar Chapter will present to the Minnesota Academy for the Blind 10 Tactile USA Flags with the Pledge of Allegiance in Braille.

The Austin VFW, represented by Norm Hecimovich, will be presented with one of these flags also.

The National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution was founded in 1890, and is a nonprofit, non-political volunteer women’s service organization dedicated to promoting patriotism, preserving American history and securing America’s future through better education for children.
