Floyd S. Martell, 81

Floyd S. Martell, 81, of Austin, Minn., died at his home on Saturday, Oct. 5, 2013, after a four-year struggle with cancer. Even through all his illness, he always had peace and comfort in the Lord. Daily devotions with his wife were an important part of each day.

Floyd was born on July 1, 1932, in Austin, Minn., to Edward and Anna (Johnson) Martell. He graduated from Austin High School in 1950. He served in the Air Force and was honorably discharged in 1956. Floyd married Louise Anne Myers on Sept. 1, 1957, at St. Olaf Lutheran Church.

He worked for 42 years at Hormel Foods Corp. until his retirement in 1992. He was a faithful member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church where he taught Sunday school, served as a mentor to youth in confirmation, took part in the Stephen Ministry program, and the Prayer Ministry.

Floyd loved coffee and goodies. He also enjoyed camping, gardening, games, puzzles, volunteering at the Senior Center and spending time with his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Edward Martell; mother, Anna Loewen; and siblings, Doug Loewen, Joan Dahlke and Earl Martell.

Floyd is survived by his wife,  Louise Martell, Austin; son and daughter-in-law: Allen and Sharon Martell, Air Way Heights, Wash.; daughters and sons-in-law: Teresa and Mike Vogt, Byron, Minn., Mary and Mike Miller, Picton, New Zealand; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brother: Lee and Elaine Martell, Golden, Colo.; nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 11, at St. Olaf Lutheran Church with Todd Portinga, AiM, officiating.  Interment will be at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 10 and at the church on Friday for one hour before the service.
