Eugene ‘Shorty’ Heimer, 78

Eugene “Shorty” Heimer, loving father and grandfather, passed away Saturday, Oct. 12, 2013, after his battle with lung cancer.

Shorty was born Sept. 30, 1935, in Johnsburg, Minn., to Joseph and Julia Heimer. On Jan. 8, 1957, Shorty married Joanne Blaser who preceded him in death in June of 2010. Shorty and Joanne made their home in Adams, Minn., where they raised their five daughters. Shorty worked at Osmundson Brothers for 57 years as a heavy equipment operator. Shorty was an avid gardener and small engine repairman, spending many hours in his garage. He also enjoyed playing cards and watching the Twins. Shorty was kind hearted and generous; often removing snow and mowing lawn for his friends and neighbors. Faith and family were important to Shorty. He was extremely proud of and grateful for his five daughters.

Shorty will be dearly missed by his daughters and sons-in-law, Dawn and Bob Gilles of Rose Creek, Minn.; Lori and Jeff Schammel of Owatonna, Minn.; Connie and Lyle Hoff of Adams, Minn.; Joni and Al DeMaris, of St. Ansgar, Iowa; Jean and Jon Koster, of St. Ansgar; 13 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, brother and sister-in-law Kenny (Evelyn) Heimer, Austin, Minn.; sister and brother-in-law Rose Mary (Ernie) King, Austin; sisters-in-law Mary Ann (Glenn) Davis, Grand Meadow, Minn.; Mary Ann (Herb) Heimer, of Adams.

Shorty was preceded in death by brothers Sylvester, Cletus, Nicholas, Jerome, Herb and Marvin, and sisters Marjorie and Priscilla May.

A mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2013, at Sacred Heart Church in Adams with Father Swaminatha Pothireddy and Father Tom Loomis officiating. Interment will be at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery. There will be a 4 p.m. rosary service on Tuesday, with visitation until 8 p.m. and Wednesday morning 10 to 11 a.m. at Adams Funeral Home.
