Gregory Arthur Olson, 67, of Austin, Minn., died Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2013, at his home.
He was born April 14, 1946, in Austin, to Arthur G. and Beulah M. (Harklau) Olson. Greg attended Austin Public Schools before serving in the United States Navy, where he served three tours of duty in Vietnam. On July 10, 2004, he married Mary Brewster Wetterberg in Austin. An employee of Hormel Foods Corporation for more than 20 years, Greg worked as a mechanic for the company in both Austin and in Iowa. He was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church. ‘Pops’ enjoyed riding motorcycles, racing cars, and NASCAR. He especially loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife Mary Olson of Austin; his children Erica Olson of Toledo, Ohio, Julie (Jai) Skaar of Galesville, Wis., Gretchen Sadaka of Mankato, Heather (Corey) Anderson of Austin, Kiesha (Jon) Neitzell of Victoria; 11 grandchildren; his brothers Craig ‘Gordy’ Olson of Austin and Michael Olson of Oskaloosa, Iowa; his sisters Roberta (Robert) Finneseth of Austin and Sharon Schwendeman of Minneapolis; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Arthur and Beulah Olson and his sister Debbie.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 19, 2013, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Austin with Rev. Glenn Monson officiating. Interment will follow in Oakwood Cemetery, with military rites by American Legion Post 91 and VFW Post 1216. Friends may call at Worlein Funeral Home in Austin from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 18, and one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.
