Funeral services for Charlotte J. Rice, 95, of Orfordville, Wis., and formerly of Hartland, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Cross of Glory Lutheran Church in Hartland with the Rev. Dennis Frank officiating. The visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at the church. Burial will be in Hartland Cemetery. Charlotte died on Saturday, Oct. 12, 2013, at Beloit Memorial Hospital, Beloit, Wis.

Charlotte Josephine Johnson Rice was born March 28, 1918, in Bath Township, Freeborn County, the daughter of Oscar and Mabel (Swenning) Johnson. She was baptized and confirmed at North Freeborn Lutheran Church and attended District No. 5, rural Clarks Grove, her first eight grades. She graduated from Albert Lea High School in 1935 and then attended Normal Training in New Richland.

After teaching rural schools for six years, she married Alton Rice at the Hartland Lutheran Church on June 23, 1942. They had one daughter, Barbara Rice Olson.

Charlotte and Alton farmed in the Hartland area for 51 years. Charlotte was active in the Cross of Glory Lutheran Church Ladies Aid, Joy Circle and taught Sunday school for several years. She was a bookkeeper for the Hartland Creamery Association for 22 years. In May of 1993 Alton and Charlotte moved to the North Side Oaks Condo in Albert Lea. The past two years she lived in Beloit with Barbara and her family.

She is survived by her daughter, Barbara (Kenneth) Olson of Beloit; grandson, Mark (Bridget) Olson of Orfordville, Wis.; great-grandson, Aric Olson of Orfordville; and great-granddaughter, Alexys Olson of Orfordville; brother, Donald (Louise) Johnson of Albert Lea; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents Oscar and Mabel Johnson; husband, Alton; parents-in-law Carl and Eda Rice; and sister and brother-in-law Helen and Marshall Bendixen.
