Memorial service for Roger Newkirk will be held 10 a.m.. Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2013, at the United Church in Grand Meadow, Minn., with the Rev. Karen Ahston officiating. Burial will take place in the Grand Meadow Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the Hindt Funeral Home in Grand Meadow from 5 to 8 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 18, 2013, and will continue at the church for one hour prior to the service.
Roger A. Newkirk, 73, of Grand Meadow, died Saturday, Nov. 16, 2013, at the Grand Meadow Health Care Center.
He was born March 11, 1940, In Dexter, Minn., to Edwin and Dorthea (Salisbury) Newkirk and attended the Elkton School graduating in 1958. Roger was a self-employed flooring installer working in several area communities. He was a past president of the Grand Meadow Lions Club, a retired member of the Grand Meadow Volunteer Fire Department and served as a member of the Mower County Sheriffs Posse. He was also a member of the United Church of Grand Meadow serving on the building committee and was a dedicated volunteer for the Meadow Fest Chicken Fry. He will be missed by his family and many friends gained through his many years of carpet laying.
He is survived by his children, Todd Newkirk, of Grand Meadow; and Kari (Terry) Eischens, of Taopi, Minn.; five grandchildren; Dustin Newkirk, Joshua Eischens, Jennie (Jesse) Crews, Jason Newkirk and Jill Eischens, three great-grandchildren; a longtime special friend Donna; three sisters, Maggie Boe, of LeRoy, Minn.; Sharon (Arthur) Osmondson and Pat Leonard, both of Adams, Minn.; and a brother, Ronald (Lori) Newkirk, of Austin, Minn.; He was preceded in death by his parents.
