Mower Co. Special Olympics pairs with Schwan’s

Mower County Special Olympics has partnered with Schwan’s Cares to offer a simple way to raise funds between now and Dec. 15 during the Special Olympics Minnesota Fall Fundraising Campaign. The drive began on Nov. 1.
Mower County will earn 20 percent from product sales and 40 percent from e-certificate sales. In addition, teams will continue to earn 5 percent on orders placed for the remainder of the year.

Program Spotlight:
People First Aktion Club
The Arc Mower County’s self-advocacy group is People First Aktion Club. People First Aktion Club is an international self-advocacy and self-help organization for adults with disabilities who want to make their own choices, speak up for themselves and be independent. Members work on developing skills such as:
•Speaking for themselves
•Making decisions for themselves
•Supporting each other
•Finding answers to unmet needs
•Working for independence and self-sufficiency
•Helping people in the community understand and accept individuals with disabilities
•Volunteer opportunities
People First Aktion Club activities include:
•SAM (Self-Advocates Minnesota)
•Monthly meetings, Usually held on the 2nd Tuesday of the month from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at The Arc Mower County
•Community Service Projects (Mower County Relay for Life, Adopt-A-Highway, Food Drives for The Salvation Army, United Way Day of Caring, Etc.)
•Conferences (State Self-Advocacy Conference, Self-Advocates Minnesota SAM Conference, Etc.)
•Fundraisers (Fudge Sale, Chicken Dumpling Soup and Chili Supper, Etc.)
