Alumni Update: Aase gets his first points

BASKETBALL

Austin grad Joe Aase scored his first career points at the college level when he went 1-for-2 from the field and scored two points in Davidson College’s 85-54 loss to Clemson University at the Charleston, S.C. tournament.

Aase has played in all six games for the Wildcats (1-5 overall) and he’s averaging 9.8 minutes and 1.2 rebounds per game.

Austin grad Connor Gunderson is leading St. Olaf College in scoring with 14.7 points per game early on this season.

Gunderson, who is a senior at St. Olaf is shooting 65.4 percent from the field for the Oles (2-2 overall).

Hayfield grad Tanner Kramer logged in his first minutes with Wartburg College since facing a medical scare at the end of last season. Kramer played 12 minutes in Wartburg’s 88-79 loss to Grinnell College.

Austin grad Babaye Oja has started in six of the first eight games at Iowa Central Community College (7-1 overall) this season. Oja is averaging 12.6 points, 3.9 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 2.6 steals per game over that stretch.

Grand Meadow grad Jessica Benson is opening her final season at St. Cloud State in style. Benson is leading the Huskies (4-0 overall) in points (25.5 per game) and rebounding (10.0 per game).

She is shooting 51.9 percent on field goals and 87.5 percent on free throws, while compiling eight steals and 10 assists in her first four games.

Southland grad Haley Kirkpatrick is off to a strong start in her freshman season at Luther College. Kirkpatrick had eight points and eight rebounds in as Luther (4-1 overall) beat UW-Platteville 90-86 Tuesday.

Kirkpatrick is averaging 5.8 points and 5.2 rebounds per game.

FOOTBALL

Southland grad Alan May was named All-Northern Sun Conference honorable mention for his efforts with the Winona State University football team.

May tied for the team lead with 32 catches for 541 yards and six touch downs and he averaged 12.9 yards per punt return. The Warriors finished 6-5 overall this past season.

VOLLEYBALL

LeRoy-Ostrander grad Kaylee Bunne finished her final season at St. Mary’s University with a solid year. Bunne. a 5-8 middle hitter, had the third most blocks (62) for the Cardinals (24-9 overall) and she racked up 113 kills and 75 digs.
