The City Council toured the remodeled Mower County Law Enforcement Center and Government Center. The tour, which all but council members Steve King and Judy Enright attended, showed off improvements to the police department’s offices, as well as the county’s health and human services department.
After nine years at Oak Park Mall, the county moved health and human services into what was once the jail and courtrooms.
The project is considered the second and final phase of the county’s building project that previously built the Jail and Justice Center. Prior estimates had remodel costs at about $4.3 million — about $1.3 million for the joint Law Enforcement Center remodel and about $3 million for the county’s Health and Human Services remodel.
The Law Enforcement Center also improved areas like its locker rooms and added space for extra investigation rooms for tougher crimes. Several areas, such as the evidence rooms, remained unchanged, according to Police Chief Brian Krueger, because of budgetary restrictions. An upgrade to the police dispatch center will take place in February, as well.
Council members were pleased with the tour.
“It was wonderful,” said Council Member Roger Boughton.
