The Packer boys hockey team avoided a loss for the first time this season, but they still weren’t completely satisfied as they had to settle for a 2-2 against Waseca in Riverside Arena Tuesday.

Austin (0-5-1 overall) out-shot Waseca 45-25, but it couldn’t hit the final shot to win the game.

“It was kind of frustrating,” Austin head coach Erik LaRock said. “We just need to learn to score during five-on-five.”

The Bluejays (2-3-1 overall) scored two power play goals in the first period to jump out to a lead, but Austin closed within 2-1 when Adam Maxfield buried a shot near the end of the second period.

Austin tied things up when Blake Halsey scored on a power play off assists from Dan Larson and Tony Baudler six minutes into the third period.

Austin junior Jacob Johnson had 23 saves in his first start at goalie of his varsity career.

“It was a step forward,” Austin head coach Erik LaRock said. “We came back and hopefully it’ll spark us.”
