Austin corn field fire

Austin Fire Chief Dan Wilson credited Brad Lukes with helping contain a picked corn field fire that threatened to be blown out of control by gusting winds Thursday morning.

The alarm was sounded at 10:25 a.m. Thursday when Mark Chrz was working a picked corn field near the intersection of 170th Street and State Highway 105 South.

Lukes plowed three times around the burning corn stalks to contain the blaze from spreading to an adjoining field were corn waited to be picked.
