Andrew C. Martin, 83, of Lyle, Minn., died peacefully at his home, surrounded by his family on Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2014.

Andrew Chester Martin was born Jan. 27, 1930, on the family farm at Lyle, the son of Melvin and Eva (Fossey) Martin. He attended school at Lyle. Andrew was married to Cecilia Ann Whalen on Feb. 3, 1951, at Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Austin. He farmed in the Lyle area until his retirement when he moved to the Heritage Apartments in Lyle.

Andrew was a member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Lyle. He had a number of hobbies including woodworking, fishing and gardening. He loved nature and watching birds. He enjoyed his afternoon visits with Cenex and Agri-Steele to drink coffee and visit with “the guys.”

Andrew was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Cecilia, grandson, Dwight Allen Corson, brother, Lee Martin, and sister, Helen Palynek.

He is survived by his children, Eva (Duane) Corson, of St. Ansgar, Iowa; Andy “Rocky” Martin, of Hugo, Minn.; Nancy (Ken) Hunze, of Plymouth, Minn.; Ronda (Todd) Cooling, of Lyle;  Carey (Julie) Martin, of Lyle; Tami (Randy) Fett, of Glenville, Minn.; Tom (Heike) Martin, of St. Cloud, Minn.; 17 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren.

Honorary bearers will be Doug Corson, Jeremy Hunze, Cam Martin, Caleb Martin, Kyle Fett, Tyler Fett, Ryan Fett and Dylan Fett.

A memorial mass will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 19, at Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Lyle, with Father Swaminatha Pothireddy officiating. Interment will be at the Rose Creek Enterprise Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Queen of Peace Catholic Church from noon until the time of the service Sunday. Clasen-Jordan Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
