Florence H. McAllister, 98, of Austin, Minn., died Friday, Feb. 14, 2014, at Sacred Heart Care Center.

Florence was born Jan. 2, 1916, in Winona, Minn., to Ora and Florence (Coutier) DuBois. She grew up in Winona where she graduated from high school.

On Nov. 9, 1935, she was united in marriage to Walter F. McAllister-the boy next door. They lived in Winona for a few years before moving to California. At the start of the war they returned to Winona and Walter enlisted in the Navy. After Walter’s return from service, they settled in Winona until 1946, when they moved to Austin where she lived until her death.

Florence loved to travel, fish, play cards, bowl, watch the Twins, and visit family and friends.

Survivors include two daughters, June H. (McAllister) Schammel, of Greenville, S.C.; Diane R. (McAllister) Feeley, of Austin; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; sister, Marcella (DuBois) Dever, of Winona, Minn.; nieces and nephews; sisters-in-law, Eleanor McAllister and Laverne DuBois.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Walter; infant son; parents; brothers, Harlow, Leonard, Kenneth, Beauford, Clyde; sons-in-law, Ralph Schammel and Tony Feeley.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2014, at Sacred Heart Care Center with Father Donald Zenk officiating. There will be a 7:30 p.m. wake service on Monday (tonight) at Mayer Funeral Home where friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. and also one hour before the service at Sacred Heart Care Center on Tuesday. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.
