Hayfield senior Mason Moreno made his trip to the Class ‘A’ state wrestling meet count, but he couldn’t quite finish it off with a state title at Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul Saturday.
Moreno lost 6-4 to Quentin Berris of Kimball Area in the 132-pound state match. Moreno, who finishes the season at 33-2, advanced to the finals when he edged out Jason Meyer of Sibley East 4-3.
GMLOK’s Wyatt Richardson, took third place at 195 pounds. Richardson, a Grand Meadow junior, pinned Tyler Patron of New York Mills with eight seconds left in the first period in the third place match.
Richardson, who finishes the season at 29-5, lost to eventual state champ Nate Rose of Sibley East 9-1 in the semifinals.
