ST. PAUL — A St. Paul landmark is days away from demolition.
The 10-story Island Station, with its 180-foot smokestack, will be razed Sunday with explosives. The coal-fired power plant sits upstream from downtown St. Paul along the Mississippi River.
The St. Paul City Council designated the plant a historical heritage site. But Minnesota Public Radio News said that designation offers no protection.
Developers are planning to buy the property, but haven’t released any plans for the site.
