Habitat for Humanity hiring summer VISTAs

Habitat for Humanity — Freeborn/Mower is looking to hire two summer associate VISTA members. The VISTAs will help supervise, coordinate and train volunteers to work on the Community Home Improvement Project sites selected in Austin.
Habitat for Humanity Summer Associate VISTA members spend eight weeks (June 2 – July 27) getting hands-on construction experience working side-by-side building homes with Habitat staff, volunteers and partner families. Summer Associate VISTA members gain functional knowledge of key elements in affordable housing and assist in completing home exterior renovation projects for homeowners in our community.
Last year, Habitat for Humanity Summer Associate VISTA members statewide recruited and coordinated more than 3,946 volunteers who contributed more than 20,000 hours of their time to Habitat for Humanity statewide. In addition, Habitat Summer Associate VISTA members worked on 30 homes and impacted the lives of 132 children and adults who live in these Habitat homes.
AmeriCorps VISTA is a national service program, which provides individuals age 18 and older the opportunity to serve with a community organization. In exchange for their service, Summer Associate VISTA members receive a modest living allowance of $928-$983 per month (depending on location). In addition, after completing the eight week service commitment, Summer Associate VISTA members can choose to receive either a cash stipend of $250 or an education award of $1,194 to be used toward tuition or student loans.
