The typist is coming to Austin.
Larry Tillemans, whose story is told in KSMQ Public Television’s program “The Typist,” will be in Austin from 2 to 3 p.m. Wednesday at the Mower County Senior Center to greet the public before a showing of “The Typist” at 3 p.m.
Tillemans, a Minnesota native and resident, is the last living clerk‐typist from the Nuremberg Trials. As a sergeant in the U.S. 3rd Army, it was Larry’s duty to document the testimony of victims and perpetrators of the Holocaust — information that deeply affected the young Minnesotan.
After years of carrying this emotional burden, Tillemans decided to share his experiences with as many people as possible. A KSMQ camera crew has been visiting Tillemans for the past two years and accompanying him as he presented his talks to schools and community groups.
The Nuremberg Trials were a series of military tribunals held by the Allied forces after World War II during 1945 and 1946 in the German city of Nuremberg. The trials prosecuted prominent members of the political, military and economic leadership of Nazi Germany.
