Eunys Ottilie Kloempken, 66, of Belle Plaine, Minn., passed away on Thursday, May 29, 2014, at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis, Minn. at the age of 66 years, one month and 20 days.
Eunys Ottilie Kloempken was born on April 9, 1948, in Glencoe, Minn. She was the daughter of Orville and Emma (Hoernemann) Kloempken. Eunys was baptized as an infant on April 25, 1948, and was later confirmed in her faith as a youth on April 15, 1962, both by the Rev. O. J. Vriesen at St. Paul’s Evangelical Reformed Church in Hamburg, Minn. She received her education in Norwood Young America, Minn., graduating with the Central High School Class of 1966. Eunys furthered her education by attending Mankato State University in Mankato, Minn., and received her master’s degree in education. In 2009 Eunys traveled to Tanzania on a mission trip with Our Saviors Lutheran Church of Austin, Minn.
Eunys made her home in Hamburg and Austin, Minn. She taught elementary education for more than 35 years including Lester Prairie for one year, Bagley for one year and from 1972 on in Austin, Minn., retiring in 2004 at the age of 56. While in Austin, she would substitute teach in Blooming Prairie and after moving to Belle Plaine also was a substitute at Belle Plaine Elementary. She called her substitute teaching pay her travel money. Eunys most recently lived in Belle Plaine to be closer to family.
Eunys always had a gentle disposition. She was a faithful person who loved to pray and read Psalms. Eunys was very involved at church, which included singing in the choir, playing organ and attending bible studies and women’s groups. She was an avid Minnesota Twins fan, enjoyed shopping for fabric, quilting, scrapbooking, gardening, playing piano and traveling. Eunys was a member of the American Association of University Women. She cherished the time spent with her family and friends, especially her college friends.

Eunys is survived by her siblings, Steve Kloempken and his wife, Ione, of Kasson, Minn., Bonie Schrupp and her husband, Bruce, of Norwood Young America, Minn., Lance Kloempken and his wife, Kathleen, of Hamburg, Minn., Amy Franck and her husband, Kirk, of Belle Plaine, Minn., and Mark Kloempken of Hamburg, Minn; nieces and nephews, Amanda Theuer and her husband, Eric, of Rochester, Minn., Heidi Kloempken of St. Paul, Minn., Melissa Kloempken of Rochester, Minn., Wyatt Schrupp of Mound, Minn., Jennifer Gruenhagen and her husband, Corey, of Cologne, Minn., Jill Schrupp and her special friend, Travis Brown, of Burnsville, Minn., Jason Kloempken and his wife, Angela, of Norwood Young America, Minn., Brian Kloempken of Hamburg, Minn., Eric Kloempken of Hamburg, Minn, Timothy Kloempken of Norwood Young America, Minn., Joseph Franck of Belle Plaine, Minn., and John Franck of Belle Plaine, Minn.; great nieces and nephews, Anya Theuer, Quincy Gruenhagen, Lily Gruenhagen, Jack Kloempken, Waylon Kloempken; and other relatives and many friends.
Eunys is preceded in death by her parents, Orville and Emma Kloempken.
Funeral services were held Monday, June 2, 2014, 11 a.m., at St. John Lutheran Church in Belle Plaine, Minn., with interment in the Ferguson Cemetery following the church luncheon. Pastor Mark Johnson officiated. The organist was Diane West, and the congregational hymns were, “Abide With Me,” “When Peace, Like A River,” “What A Friend We Have In Jesus,” and “How Great Thou Art.”
Honorary casket bearers were Eunys’ Nieces: Amanda Theuer, Heidi Kloempken, Melissa Kloempken, Jennifer Gruenhagen, and Jill Schrupp.
Active casket bearers were Eunys’ Nephews: Wyatt Schrupp, Jason Kloempken, Brian Kloempken, Eric Kloempken, Timothy Kloempken, Joseph Franck, and John Franck.
The family invites everyone to the luncheon at the church immediately following the service.
