Joyce ‘Charlene’ Gerber, 87

Joyce “Charlene” Gerber, 87, of Austin, Minn., died on Monday, June 2, 2014, at St. Mark’s Lutheran Home.
Charlene was born in Spencer, Iowa, on Oct. 1, 1926, to Holger and Blanche Flink. When she was 16 years old, her family moved to a farm in the Austin area. She graduated from Austin High School.
She married Eugene Gerber at Queen of Angels Catholic Church on Aug. 25, 1947. They were blessed to have celebrated 65 years of marriage before her husband preceded her in death on March 31, 2013. Charlene and her husband Gene were longtime members of St. Augustine Catholic Church. Charlene was very active in her unit and enjoyed helping out in serving and making pies, cakes, etc., for funerals and other functions. She was a very sweet, loving, caring mother and she will be dearly missed!
Survivors include her son, Gregory (Bonnie) Gerber, Austin; daughter, Diane (Donald) LaVallie, Austin; daughter-in-law, Rhonda Gerber, Rochester, Minn; 10 grandchildren, Debbie Getchell, Lisa Aden, Jacob Gerber, Adam Gerber, Derek LaVallie, Kristin Guneri, Benjamin LaVallie, Richard LaVallie, Tim Gerber, and Jenna Sanchez; 16 great-grandchildren, Sierra, Garrett, Nate, Owin, Olive, Osa, Jae, Autumn, Summer, Mina, Celestina, Elizabeth, Alice, Jacob, Lexie, and Bryce; her brother Harley (Jan) Flink, Rochester, Minn., nieces and nephews. Also, brother and sister-in-laws Ed (Gert) May, Stan(Stephanie) Gerber, Marie(Doug) Behrenfeld, Norb(Helen) Gerber, Dave (LaVonne) Gerber, and Paul (Tula) Gerber.
She was preceded in death by her son James Gerber; sisters Maxine Berkland, Linda Lageson; and brother John Flink.
A graveside service for immediate family will be held on Wednesday June 4, 2014, with Father Jim Steffes officiating.
