Relay For Life of Mower County Committee
Now that the weather has finally warmed up, you may find your summer calendar is filling up fast. Make sure to mark down these important Relay For Life of Mower County dates as you make your summer plans:
Team Captain Meeting
6:30 p.m. June 11
Although many Relay For Life teams have already formed, it’s not too late to start your own team. If you have been thinking of putting a team together, now’s the time to do it. Contact Linda Baier, event chair, at 507-440-1024 for more information.
A team captain meeting will be held on Wednesday, June 11, at the American Red Cross building at 305 4th Ave NW in Austin. This is an important event to attend to learn more about the upcoming Relay For Life walk, share fundraising ideas, and learn other important information to share with your teammates.
Survivor’s Dinner
6 p.m. July 11
If you are suffering from cancer or are a cancer survivor and you haven’t yet attended a Relay For Life of Mower County survivor’s dinner, you won’t want to miss this. This is a special event held annually to honor those who have fought against cancer. This year’s event will be held at 6 p.m. on Friday, July 11, at the Corcoran Center at 2000 Oakland Ave. West in Austin. The evening includes a dinner, generously donated by Hormel and the Mayo Clinic Health System in Austin, and a speaker. If you are suffering from cancer or are a cancer survivor and have never attended the dinner, make sure to call Baier at the phone number listed above for an invitation.
Relay For Life of Mower County Walk
3 p.m. July 26
The Relay For Life of Mower County committee has been busy planning to make this year’s walk better than ever. At this year’s walk at Bandshell Park in Austin, you’ll find vendors, games, entertainment, a silent auction and much, much more. You’ll also get to experience the reverence of the many luminaries as well as special ceremonies. The walk is a commitment from the community to fight back against cancer. We stay up all night because the Relay is symbolic of the fact that cancer never rests, so neither do we. There is food, activities, and entertainment to keep participants going. In addition, the beautifully decorated luminaria line the walk’s path, inspiring teams to walk throughout the night.
