Two buildings suffered damages Wednesday after area residents drove cars into them.

Police Chief Brian Krueger said a 67-year-old Austin woman was taken to Mayo Clinic Health System in Austin after she drove her 2013 Chrysler Town & Country van into the south side of the Mower County Senior Center, where she hit the Arc of Mower County office, at about 11:45 a.m.

The driver may have hit the building due to an unspecified medical condition. She was taken to the hospital for neck, back and wrist pain.

The Arc of Mower County office sustained significant damage and a 60-year-old employee was checked on by Gold Cross paramedics, according to Krueger.

An 86-year-old Blooming Prairie man also drove into the north side of Medicap Pharmacy on Oakland Avenue West at about 10:48 a.m. Krueger said the driver attempted to park at the pharmacy but hit the accelerator instead of his brakes. The Medicap building sustained moderate damage and employees told police the building shook when it was hit, according to Krueger. It appears the driver did not need medical treatment.

This is the second time someone has driven their car into Medicap Pharmacy this year. Damage estimates for both buildings are pending, according to Krueger.
