Lois Jean Thompson, 89, of Austin, Minn., died Saturday, July 5, 2014, at her home.
Lois was born Jan. 13, 1925, to Gilbert and Clara (Holstad) Hovden in Ridgeway, Iowa. She attended rural school and graduated from Ridgeway High School in 1942. Lois married Sylvester (Sy) Thompson on Nov. 12, 1949, at Madison Lutheran parsonage in Ridgeway. She worked at Hormel and was later employed as a teacher’s aide at Austin High School.
She was a charter member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church and enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; four sisters, Stella Pappas, Eunice Wenzel, Olive Sherrard and Carol Anderson; brother Robert Hovden; one niece Karen Sherrard.
Lois is survived by her sons, Bryan (Ruth Kirchner) Thompson, Watertown, Minn., and Mark (Pam) Thompson, Clear Lake, Iowa; grandchildren, Cassie Thompson, Minneapolis, Minn., Dustin Thompson, Minneapolis, Minn., Sara Thompson, Denver, Colo., and Andy Thompson, Clear Lake, Iowa; brother-in-law Emery “Bud” (Enid) Thompson, Austin, Minn.; nieces and one nephew.
A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 10, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church with the Rev. Scott Richards officiating. Interment will be at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be at the church for one hour before the service on Thursday. Clasen-Jordan Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be designated to Our Savior’s Lutheran Church or to the donor’s choice.
