Parks and Rec partnering with youth hockey

We are partnering with Austin Youth Hockey to hold squirt and a mite 4-on-4 leagues.  Squirts will begin Monday, Sept.8 and mites on Saturday, Sept. 13. Stop in our office to sign up.

Riverside figure skate club will begin their season at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 21. Figure skating is open to girls and boys age four and up. Stop at Riverside Arena between noon and 1 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 21 and talk with board members or the coach.

Adult volleyball fall entry deadline is Tuesday, Sept. 9. Fall volleyball runs for 10 weeks with women’s league on Wednesday nights and co-ed league on Friday nights at Ellis Middle School. The entry fee is $169 per team plus an $8 per player fee. If you have questions please call our office.

You may sign up for basketball for those in grades second to sixth-grade, youth volleyball for grades fourth to sixth-grade, archery intro and league for ages 9 to 18, youth wrestling and indoor soccer.  For more information please call our office.

The Youth Activity Center opens on Sept. 15. It will open at 3:30 p.m. on for those in grades fifth through 12th-grade in Mower County. All activities are free and Supervised. It’s located in the east rooms at Riverside Arena.

At 7 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 8, check out the free program at the Jay C. Hormel Nature Center with Michael Forsberg. Mr. Forsberg, a photographer, will reflect on his last 15 years of documenting the natural environment with his “Cranes to Plains” story.

Re-fest will be held this year from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sept. 20 at the Mower County Fairgrounds.

This years’ keynote speaker will be Justin Hanson on Cedar River watershed health.

There will be music by Bella Ruse and Reminisce on the Solar Stage, kid’s presentations by David Stokes, Larry Dolphin and Jim Jayes, a mushroom presentation with our very own nature center intern, Sammie Peterson, electronic recycling, document shredding, free well water testing, lots of food vendors and more.
