The Austin boys soccer team brought it’s best game out against its rivals as it beat Albert Lea 3-1 in Art Hass Stadium Tuesday.
The Packers (5-7-2 overall, 3-5-2 Big Nine) attempted a season-high 39 shots in the win and Gach Gach had to make just five saves.
The Tigers (4-9-1 overall, 1-8-1 Big Nine) scored in the first minute of the game, but that was all of the damage they would do. Austin tied the game when Ochan Ochogi scored on an assist from Roel Torres early in the second half and Sean Baker made a penalty kick to make it 2-1 Packers 15 minutes into the second half.
Irving Morales iced the game with a goal with 12 minutes left in the contest.
“We’ve been working hard all season and we’ve had lots of close ones,” Austin head coach Jens Levisen said. “To keep pressing and not get frustrated after falling behind shows something with the work ethic for the team. They’re going to keep going and they’re not going to panic.”
The Packers had plenty of chances to score a few more goals, but AL’s keeper denied them of some good shots.
“Their goal keeper definitely kept them in the game,” Levisen said. “There were multiple instances where he just grabbed one or just got a foot on it.”
