Talk about Austin Public Schools’ extracurriculars, and it won’t take long for music to come up.
We’ve been fortunate to have an especially remarkable run of strong choir programs, and the resulting ripple of positive effects has reached all of us in some small way — we know a good voice when we hear one.
Later this month we’ll hear four of them.
Tonic Sol-fa, an a cappella quartet whose sound is described by The New York Times as “A vocal kaleidoscope…unique to the human voice” will make a stop at our Paramount Theatre on at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 24.
Known for their stage presence and improvisation, the Emmy-award-winning group has appeared on A Prairie Home Companion as well as NBC’s Today Show. But like any good thing worth having, these gigs didn’t just fall into their lap; during their extensive tours around the country, Tonic Sol-fa first collected thousands of intensely loyal fans and sold over 2,000,000 albums. Get ready, because they may just collect a few more when they come around here. They may be preaching to the choir in this neck of the woods, but Tonic Sol-fa is out to prove that a good voice (or four) goes a long way.
Tickets are $15 in advance or $20 at the door. Have a family? Your first kiddo’s ticket is free, and additional kids’ tickets are $5 each. Pick yours up at the ArtWorks Center or grab them online at austinareaarts.org.
