Lyle-Pacelli football team runs past Cardinals

The Lyle-Pacelli football team didn’t necessarily plan on running the ball a lot in its regular season finale, but that’s exactly what happened as the Athletics rolled past LeRoy-Ostrander (1-7 overall, 1-7 SEC) 42-22 in LeRoy Wednesday.
The Athletics (2-6 overall, 2-6 SEC) finished the game with more than 300 yards rushing and Daniel Bollingberg led the way with 209 rushing yards and two TDs.
“We just had the better running game tonight,” LP head coach Jeremy Wilson said. “We were actually just running to set up the pass and they never stopped the run so we kept running.”
LP trailed 14-0 to start the game, but it scored the next 42 points to take over. Jordan Cotter had an interception for a touchdown that put LP up 20-14 near the end of the half and then LP kicked an on-side kick and scored another TD before the half to take a two-score lead.
The win was a big one for the Athletics as it moves them out of the No. 7 seed in the Section 1 nine-man playoffs and sets them up with either Mabel-Canton or Lanesboro. If LP would’ve lost, it would’ve had to play at Spring Grove next Tuesday at 7 p.m.
“We think we have a shot at winning against Mabel or Lanesboro if we play mistake-free football,” Wilson said.
Jordan Hart had 114 yards rushing and two TDs for LP and he threw for 60 yards and a TD. Cotter ran for 61 yards.
