Two volleyball tournaments on deck in November

High school through adult volleyball players, don’t miss your opportunity to play in the Flurry 4-on-4 Volleyball Tournament. Women’s tournament will play on Nov. 9, and co-rec will play on Nov. 16, in the Austin High School Hastings Gym.
Join the fun and register your women’s team by Wednesday and/or your co-rec team by Wednesday, Nov. 12 by contacting Helen Jahr at 507-279-1266 or by e-mailing her hejahr@gmail.com. Entry fee is $20 per team. Awards will be based on the number of teams.
This is a fundraiser for the Austin Area Volleyball Club.
Adult open hockey will be held at Riverside from 7:30 to 8:45 p.m. this Wednesday.
We will move to Packer Arena through February. Times will change but we will stay on Wednesdays so please check a calendar or call our office. We also post on Facebook.
The cost is $6 and you must be in high school and not playing youth hockey, no checking, no alcohol and helmets are required.
Mower Refreshed is hosting a Harvest 5K walk/run at 9 a.m. on Nov. 8. The event will begin and end at Todd Park’s northwest large pavilion.
The entry fee for the event is $20 plus a healthy food donation. To guarantee you receiving a long sleeve T-shirt, register at the YMCA of Austin by Friday, Oct. 31. Register on race day at the Todd Park pavilion between 7:30 and 8:30 a.m. Registration forms can be picked up at the Park and Recreation office at 121 4th Ave. NE. All proceeds beyond the cost of the event will go directly to the county food shelves. The food donations brought by participants the day of the race will go to the Salvation Army in Austin.
Riverside Arena Public Skates is 6:15 to 7:15 p.m. on Wednesday.
We move open public skates to Packer Arena through February beginning from 5:30 to 6:45 p.m. on Nov. 12. The cost to skate is $4, if you need skates rentals are $1. You can find the calendar on the city website at www.ci.austin.mn.us.
The Austin Audubon and the Friends of the Jay C. Hormel Nature Center are sponsoring the next free program in the Ruby Rupner Auditorium “A Love Affair with Birds: The Life of Thomas Sadler Roberts” by Sue Leaf at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 18 at 7 p.m.
Saturday we will host an open volleyball gym in Hastings located in the Austin High School for students fifth- to 12th-grade. For more information follow us on Facebook or call our office. This open gym is free.
The Austin girls hockey team will host Mankato East at noon on Saturday. Show your support and cheer the girls on in Riverside Arena.
The Austin Bruins will play Coulee Region on Saturday. On Nov. 11 they will host Janesville. All home games begin at 7:05 p.m. Come on down and watch the excitement and enjoy the game.
The Youth Activity Center opens at 3:30 p.m. on Monday for those in grades fifth through 12th in Mower County. All activities are free and supervised, located in the east rooms at Riverside Arena. Enter through the doors on the northeast side of the building and walk down the hall.
The hours at the center are 3:30 to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 3:30 to 9 p.m. Friday, 1 to 9 p.m. Saturday and 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday. It opens at 1 p.m. on days with no school, and it closes at 6 p.m. when the Bruins are playing at home. Parents are welcome to stop in and check it out.
