Austin 200-yard freestyle relay team advances to consolation finals at state meet

The Austin 200-yard freestyle relay team wasn’t even sure if it would get to the Class A state meet a week ago and now the team is headed to the consolation finals.

The Packer team of Emma Kleis, Abby Gogolewski, Mikayla Finney and Maddie Kinney took 13th out of 23 teams at the Class A swimming preliminaries at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center in Minneapolis Thursday.

The team, which swam a time of 1:42.12 on Thursday, will now swim in Friday’s finals, which begin at noon at the Aquatic Center.

Visitation/Mendota Heights had the fastest time in Thursday’s preliminaries with a new Class A record time of 1:36.00.
