Sister Lucille (Lucy) Hass, formerly Sister Margaret, 75, a Franciscan Sister of the Congregation of Our Lady of Lourdes, Rochester, Minnesota, died at Assisi Heights on Friday, Nov. 28, 2014.

Lucille Margaret Hass was born Jan. 31, 1939, in Austin, Minnesota, to Henry and Agnes (Crilly) Hass. She entered the Sisters of St. Francis in 1959 from Sacred Heart Parish, Adams, Minnesota. Sister Lucy made first vows in 1962 and perpetual vows in 1965. In 1965, she received a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from the College of St. Teresa, Winona, Minnesota. She completed a master’s degree in education administration from the University of North Dakota, Grand Forks, North Dakota, in 1974, and a specialist licensure program from the University of St. Thomas, St. Paul, Minnesota in 1986.

Sister Lucy served as a primary teacher at St. Mary School, Winona, Minnesota, from 1963 to 1964, and at St. Priscilla School, Chicago, Illinois, from 1964 to 1968. From 1968 to 1973 she served as a teaching principal at Our Lady of Good Counsel School, Wilmont, Minnesota; principal at St. Peters School, North St. Paul, Minnesota from 1974 to 1978, and at Nativity of Mary School, Bloomington, Minnesota, from 1978 to 1984. From 1984 to 1988, Sister Lucy was coordinator of personnel placement and relicensure for the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis. In 1988, she was elected to congregational leadership for the Sisters of St. Francis, Rochester, a position she held until 1994. Following a sabbatical at Gonzaga University, Spokane, Washington, Sister Lucy served as principal at Emmetsburg Catholic School, Emmetsburg, Iowa, from 1995 to 1999. She then worked as a tri-parish pastoral associate in St. James, Madelia and Truman, Minnesota, from 1999 to 2005, and in LeRoy, Grand Meadow and Spring Valley, Minnesota from 2005 to 2006.

Since 2006 she served in Adult Faith Formation and Pastoral Ministry at St. Anastasia Parish, Hutchinson, Minnesota.

Sister Lucy is survived by her Franciscan Community with whom she shared life for fifty-five years; and her siblings: Evelyn Cashman, Rochester, Minnesota, and Kathleen Schneider, Adams, Minnesota.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Wayne Hass.

A Funeral Mass will be held Friday, Dec. 5, 2014, at 11 a.m. in the Chapel of Our Lady of Lourdes at Assisi Heights, Rochester. A vigil service, followed by visitation, will be at 6:30 p.m. Thursday.
