Two men were arrested Wednesday night for forging a check two nights in a row, at the same place.

According to Police Chief Brian Krueger, on Tuesday around 1 p.m., a 25-year-old Dexter man came into Bobby Joe’s Bar to cash a check for $360. The check was made out to the man from “Snyder Construction” of Mankato as a payroll check. Later, the bar employee contacted Vally Bank in Mankato, who informed them the check was a forgery, as the construction company does not exist and the routing numbers were invalid.

On Wednesday, around 10:40 p.m., the suspect phoned the bar to inform them he was coming back to cash a second check.

The employees contacted police when the suspect arrived, who then arrested both the suspect and a second suspect, a 28-year-old Dexter man, who was waiting outside.

Officers later found the second man had an outstanding warrant from Fairbault County for check forgery and theft, with no bail allowed.

They were arrested on charges of felony check forgery. The second check, also from Snyder Construction, was made out for $800.12, which the bar employees did not cash. They have not recovered the first $360.

Officers said there was a third check sitting on the passenger seat in plain view of the white Cadillac the two were driving. The vehicle was towed to the Law Enforcement Center and is awaiting a formal search warrant. The investigation is ongoing.
