Man jailed after alleged assault

Tommy Joe Hegna, 22 of Austin, was taken into custody and jailed, following an alleged assault outside his residence.

According to Austin Police Department report Hegna allegedly kicked a neighbor’s dog who wandered onto his property early Friday evening.

The dog’s owner confronted Hegna, according to the police report, and an argument followed by a wrestling match ensued in the 400 block of Second Street Southeast.

When the dog’s owner got Hegna in a head-lock, the suspect allegedly pulled a knife and threatened the man.

The neighbor released Hegna who walked away from the scene and police were called.

According to the victim of the assault and eyewitnesses, Hegna did brandish a knife. However, no knife was found at the scene, according to the police report.

Hegna faces second degree assault charges.

No injuries were reported.
