A breaker issue and older equipment was responsible for a power outage that affected 1,650 Austin Utilities customers in northwest Austin, Mapleview and Lansing Monday night.
Austin Utilities officials say equipment failure on an overhead line close to Interstate 90 caused a power outage for about an hour and 20 minutes starting around 8:20 p.m. Monday.
“Our crews have been in the process over the past few years of replacing some of our older equipment in the 1970s, and this section had not been completed yet,” Marketing/Energy Services Director Kelly Lady said.
The outage affected the city’s 18th Avenue Northwest business district, along with Mapleview, Lansing and some neighborhoods in Austin.
Utility crews restored power at about 9:45 p.m.
