Prepare early for the years of retirement
Published 6:52 pm Saturday, January 3, 2015
If you thought buying a home was hard, just wait until you start retirement planning.
The toughest fiscal challenge most people face, planning for the nonworking years takes time and money. Those who do it well will spend their golden years living financially stress-free.
How much will you need? The Department of Labor estimates that you’ll need to replace 70 percent to 90 percent of your pre-retirement income for each year of retirement, so you can estimate your target goal based on your current income and life expectancy.
Of course, this is just a rough estimate. Factors such as whether you’ll own a home at retirement, vacationing habits and medical expenses will significantly impact how much you’ll need to save. While it’s impossible to predict exactly how long you’ll live, it’s good to be prepared.
If you are considering retiring in the near future consider coming down to the senior center and checking out what we have to offer. It’s good to have a plan before you retire. Financial is critical but don’t forget to think about how to stay healthy and happy. We have many programs that will keep you on track.
We also have volunteer opportunities to keep you busy.
Don’t forget our coffee shop where every day you can have homemade soup for $1 and a sandwich for 50 cents. Tuesday we are serving hamburger stroganoff for $2. You are always welcome at the center.
