City plans to buy SE Austin land for flood work

The Austin City Council still has a few flood properties to look into.
Though the city has acquired much of Austin’s flood-prone property as part of its flood mitigation efforts in recent years, city staff have found more properties to buy in southeast Austin.
The council approved three properties to be purchased during a work session Monday. The city will buy 404 and 406 Seventh St. SE and 409 Eighth St. SE to tear down the buildings on those properties as part of its flood mitigation efforts.
There’s no word on when each property will be torn down.
In other news, the council:
—Officially named the Austin Daily Herald the city’s legal newspaper. The Daily Herald was the legal newspaper for the city of Austin in 2013 and 2014.
