Tyler Bree Engel was born in her parents’ home on Jan. 3, 2015, as one of the first Austin babies born in the new year.
Tyler Bree is the second child of Tyler and Toni Engel. She was born at 10:45 a.m weighing 8 pounds and 8 ounces.
“It’s pretty exciting because our son was born on Easter Sunday, now she’s got her own little thing that she can claim, too,” Tyler said of his daughter, Tyler Bree.
Tyler and Toni’s first child, Thomas, is about 2 1/2 years old, and Tyler said it’s been an adjustment having a newborn again.
“It’s been a good year, year and a half since we changed a diaper,” he laughed.
He added, “It makes me take more naps, that’s for sure.”
The couple married in May of 2010, so Tyler said they had a good routine down by the time Tyler Bree came into the picture.
“This just kind of makes us have a new routine now, so a good change,” he said.
Rather than a birth at a hospital, the couple chose to have midwife Rachel Knudson, whose practice Gentle hands Midwifery LLC is based in Hartland, help them during the birth. Although they didn’t have a bad experience with their son who was born at the medical center in Austin, Toni decided to have her baby at home.
“We were kind of hoping for a different experience, I think, so [we] tried something different,” Tyler said.
He said they had a great experience with Knudson, and being able to recover at home was nice.
