The Calendar Working Group will make a presentation to the Austin Public Schools Board Monday on why research should continue on different calendar options for students.

The board will hold its regularly scheduled meeting at 5:30 p.m. on Monday at the City Council Chambers. The Calendar Committee — a group comprised of about 50 community members — researched different options for a school’s yearly calendar in 2014, as well as other options, such as start time, that could help students. Group facilitators Jill Rollie and Brandon Button will present to the board the results the committee found during its research.

If the board passes the recommendation, more committees will likely discuss what calendar and time options could look like in Austin.

The new committee would look at busing, scheduling for extracurricular activities, and other areas that would be affected by the change. It would not decide whether to make changes to the current Austin schedule, but rather would research changes that could be beneficial to Austin and its students.

The board will also discuss the new Mayo Clinic Health Connection healthcare kiosk. The school district announced a partnership in December with Mayo Clinic Health System in Albert Lea and Austin that aims to make access to medical services easier through the use of Mayo Clinic Health Connection — a kiosk which allows patients to be treated for basic care via teleconference through the HealthSpot platform. Representatives from the Mayo Clinic Health System will present at the meeting.
