Due to last week’s weather our Learn to Skate For All Ages was postponed and will begin Wednesday at Packer Arena.

You may still sign up for this great class. Make it a family affair and learn together. Our department, Austin Park and Recreation will be partnering with Austin Youth Hockey and the Austin Bruin’s. The registration fee is $30 per person for six sessions.

Dates are from 5:30 to 6:15 p.m. this Wednesday and Feb. 4, 11, 18, 25 and 2:30 to 3:15 p.m. Jan. 24.

There will also be a public skate following each session for you to stay and practice your new skills if you wish. Or invite others to come and skate with you. For more information, you may call our office at 433-1881.

Pubic Skates at Packer Arena are: 1:30 to 2:45 p.m., this Sunday and 6:15 to 7:15 p.m. Wednesday. The cost to skate is $4, if you need skates rentals they are $1.

Adult open hockey is 7:30 to 8:45 p.m. Wednesday evenings. Watch Facebook and check the city website at www.ci.austin.mn.us for the calendar.

Warming houses are open. There are two hockey rinks and one land rink located at Kaufman Park, Eighth Street and 11 Avenue Southeast. The hours of this warming house is 6 to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday and 1 to 5 and 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Galloway Park located at 8th Street and 2 Avenue SW is open from 6 to 9 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and 1 to 5 and 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday.

Check out the Jay C. Hormel Nature Center on Thursday’s for their free cross country ski and snowshoe rental for adults and children from 3 to 6 p.m. They also offer ski and snowshoe rentals daily; adults ski rental is $6 and snowshoe rental is $5 for three hours. Children 18 and under may rent for $1 for three hours. This is made possible by a generous donation from Dick and Belita Schindler.

The Austin boys hockey team will host Faribault on Saturday at Riverside Arena with the JV team starting at 11 a.m. and varsity at 1 p.m. The public is welcome — stop in a support your local teams.

The Bruins will be on the ice Saturday hosting Coulee and Jan. 23 hosting Brookings, South Dakota. The puck drops at 7:05 p.m., bring the family and friends to Riverside Arena for some great hockey!
