ST. PAUL — A panel of top Minnesota officials is getting the latest details on the state Capitol’s grand makeover, including whether it’s on schedule and on budget.

The Capitol Preservation Commission was meeting Wednesday to approve the final phase of construction. It’s still at least two years before the $273 million remodeling is complete.

But project managers need the commission’s go-ahead to bid out the remaining work. There are also key signoffs required on space allocations within the redone building. Leaders from the House, Senate and Gov. Mark Dayton must decide how many square feet and how many offices are awarded to each.

The commission is made up of Dayton, several legislators, the Supreme Court chief justice, attorney general and other public appointees.
