There are many ways to raise funds for fighting cancer and there will be a great chance to do that next month.

Jim Nelson and Duane Smith contacted me this past week and they wanted me to send out an invitation to all for “Fishing for a Cure,” which is a “Paint the Town Pink” event.

“Fishing for a Cure” will be held Feb. 7 at East Side Lake, from noon to 2 p.m. The cost for entering the event will be $10. This includes holes drilled, bait, and food. The food and door prize drawings will follow at the Minnesota National Guard Armory. The National Guard Armory is located at 800 21st St. SE.

The following prizes will be given out at the Armory: first place will get $300, second place will get $200 and third place will get $100. All other donations will go to Hormel Institute for cancer research.

Since 2009 “Fishing for a Cure” has donated $41,500.

“We’re really happy to be on board with The Hormel Institute and their research and finding a cure for a cancer,” Nelson said. “The community as a whole comes together for this event and it is enjoyable to see them fishing for a cure.”

Last year, over 270 participants took part in this event and they caught well over 50 fish. There were parents, kids, grandparents, dogs and all were fishing for cancer research.
