56th Annual Pancake Day

56th Annual Pancake Day

Mower County is in for a bit of a heatwave this weekend — temperatures in the 30s. So get excited to get out of the house this weekend for evenings filled with pancakes, art and an auction.

1. 56th Annual Pancake Day

7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Thursday, First United Methodist Church

The Austin Noon Lions Club’s annual pancake feast returns today, and tickets are still available for $6. Children age 6 and under are free. There will be pancakes, French toast and sausage. Diabetic testing will take place from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. Donations to the Salvation Army Food Shelf are gratefully accepted.

5 to 8 p.m., Friday, Austin ArtWorks Center

Grab the art supplies and head on down to the Clay Cavern. The ArtWorks Center will provide the clay; participants should bring other supplies such as paint, paper or canvas for their project. To use one of the throwing wheels, participants will need to attend an orientation session with John Sullivan. The event is free for AACA members, and $5 for non-members. For more information, call 507-434-0934. Also, visit www.austinareaarts.org for updates and other information about demos, in-studio workshops and more.

3. Lyle Area Cancer Auction

6 p.m. to 12 a.m. on Friday, 11 a.m. until last item sells on Saturday, Lyle American Legion/city maintenance building

This will be a milestone year for the Lyle Area Cancer Auction as it will surpass $2 million raised to fight cancer. The auction will be held in the Lyle American Legion and the adjoining Lyle maintenance building and starts at 6 p.m. Friday and will continue until around midnight or 1 a.m. The auction resumes at 11 a.m. Saturday and runs until the last item sells, typically between 1 and 2 a.m. Sunday morning. Volunteers will highlight Lyle Area Cancer’s $2 million raised from 1980 to 2015 with a banner featuring a pink footprint. They’ll ask everyone attending the auction to sign the banner — outside the footprint and the lettering — to commemorate the milestone. A winner for the annual Harley raffle will be selected on Saturday night.

4. Family Paint: Let It Snow

4:30 to 5:30 p.m., Saturday, Austin ArtWorks Center

Spend some quality time together at the easel this weekend at a family painting event. The cost for AACA members is $25 per canvas, and the cost for nonmembers is $30 per canvas. Participants have the option to share a single canvas. For more information, call 57-434-0934.
