Austin High School teams will have events this week with gymnastics on the Tuesday at the YMCA, wrestling at AHS on Thursday and girls hockey at Riverside, both on Thursday and boys hockey on Saturday at Riverside.

Events held on Saturday at East Side Lake include Plunge for Pink. Registration is online at the site above. Click on the event. Snowmobile speed run registration begins at 9:30 a.m. and the event starts 11 a.m. on the north end of East Side Lake. Watch for ice reports. On Sunday, you can enjoy Dad’s Belgian Waffles at the Eagles Club.

There are still more events the next week leading up to the “Paint the Rink Pink” game.

The Riverland Blue Devils Softball team is hosting a hitting clinic in the RCC gym for area girls interested in learning solid fundamentals of hitting. Dates are Jan 31, Feb 7, 14, 21 and 28. Register at the door the day of the event. Forms are available at our office.

Wear athletic clothing, tennis shoes and bring your glove, bat, helmet and water. The hitting clinic is from 9 to 10:30 a.m. and costs $90. You will also have a choice to join the fielding or pitching clinic on Feb 21 and 28 from 10:30 to noon. The cost to do both is $115 or $35 if you are only interested in the fielding or pitching.

Austin Youth Hockey will be hosting the Bantam A and B Tournament at Packer Arena starting Friday. There will be games played at Riverside as well. For a schedule of games, go www.austin.pucksystems2.com click on tournaments.

Pubic Skate times at Packer Arena are: 6:15 to 7:15 p.m. Feb. 2, 4 and 11; 1:30 to 2:30 p.m., Feb. 8; 5:30 to 6:45 p.m. Feb. 9 and 16 and 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 13. The cost to skate is $4, if you need skates; we have rentals for $1.

Adult open hockey is 7:30 to 8:45 p.m. on Feb. 4 an 11. We have added a couple of times on Feb. 9 and 16. Time for both dates is 7 to 8:15 p.m. Watch Facebook and check www.ci.austin.mn.us for the calendar.

Sorry, with the warm weather our outside ice rinks are not doing very well. We have closed the warming houses at Kaufman and Galloway Park until further notice.

Austin Youth Fastpitch has started their registration for this summer. Girls 10U play on Wednesday nights, 12U and 18U play two nights per week; 12U and 18U play Monday and Wednesdays and 14U and 16U play Tuesday and Thursday evenings.

This is a traveling league. Parents are responsible for their player’s transportation. You can print a registration form from their website at www.austinyouthsoftball.com.

The Bruins will be on the ice Wednesday hosting the Minnesota Wilderness and again Friday when they host the Minnesota Magicians. Have a little fun and come to the game on Wednesday dressed the part as it will be “Way Back When Wednesday.” Friday’s night’s game will celebrate Bruiser’s Birthday. Who old do you think he is?
