Man who left US to join al-Shabab being released

MINNEAPOLIS — A man who admitted to leaving the U.S. in 2007 and joining the terror group al-Shabab in Somalia is scheduled to be released from federal prison, but may not be immediately freed.
Abdifatah Yusuf Isse is expected leave the federal medical facility in Rochester Thursday. U.S. Attorney’s Office spokesman Ben Petok says Isse is being transferred into Immigration and Customs Enforcement custody and placed into removal proceedings.
Isse’s attorney, Paul Engh, says he’s working on resolving the immigration issues.
Isse pleaded guilty to providing material support to terrorists.
