Events will be held at Runnings

Austin students will be shooting for new goals soon after an archery club was added to the activities at Austin High School and Ellis Middle School.

The Austin Public Schools Board approved the new archery club at its regularly scheduled meeting Monday evening. Activities Director Assistant Janni Donovan said the club is already popular, and students have been talking about it for a while.

β€œIt’s going to be great for the kids,” Donovan said.

Club events will be held at the Runnings store, 1400 18th Ave. NW in Austin, where they will set up a shooting range and provide the coaching. Robert Maxfield will coach the seventh- through 12th-grade students. Students can register online at www.austinpackeractivities.com, similar to other high school sports and activities. Students may use their own equipment, and equipment will be available for use at Runnings.

Donovan said the idea has been in the works for a few months. Club activities are expected to start soon.
