The Hayfield girls basketball team edged out Southland 48-45 in Hayfield Thursday.
The Rebels (15-8 overall) missed a 3-pointer that would’ve forced OT as time expired.
“We’re happy with the win,” Hayfield head coach Fred Kindschy said. “Southland’s a quality team and it’s kind of nice to win a close game instead of losing one.”
Bhrett Zhanle led the Vikings (16-7 overall) with 15 points.
Hayfield used a one-three-one zone defense to lock down on Southland’s top scorer McKenzie Kirtz, who scored 16 points.
“We were played a tight zone to limit Kirtz’s touches and it worked for us,” Kindschy said.
