Twin Towers set for $1.2M renovation

The Twin Towers is about to get a serious renovation.
The Austin Housing and Redevelopment Authority received $1.2 million last week in bonding funds from the state legislature to replace the public housing building’s windows and outside doors.
“We’re thrilled to get it,” said Jon Erichson, the HRA’s executive director.
According to Erichson, new windows have been part of the HRA’s wish list for a long time. Built in 1974, the Twin Towers has never replaced its windows, and the HRA has listed the project on its capital improvement program list for several years.
Now, the HRA can move forward on plans to replace windows for all 205 apartments as well as the building’s community areas.
“It’s a wonderful opportunity the legislature provided,” Erichson said.
The HRA will work with state officials to map out the project, which Erichson could start in the latter half of 2015.
