Spring break no longer aligned with Easter holiday

The traditional calendar is set for 2016-2017, but will see changes on spring break dates.
The Austin Public Schools Board approved the Austin Public Schools 2016-2017 traditional calendar at its regularly scheduled meeting Monday in the City Council Chambers. The school year will start Sept. 5 and go through June 9, which will change the dates for spring break to mid-March, no longer aligning it with Easter.
With much research currently taking place to see if changing the calendar to a balanced calendar or the school start time would benefit Austin students, the district is not ready to make any large changes.
