Packers volleyball team wins John Marshall Invite

The Austin volleyball team won the John Marshall Invite Saturday, by beating St. Charles 18-25, 25-10, 15-11 in the championship match after going 0-2 in pool play.

The Packers (9-7 overall) had lost to St. Charles 10-25, 15-25 earlier in the day. Austin beat John Marshall 20-25, 25-22, 15-13 in the semifinals after losing to the Rockets 18-25, 18-25 in pool play.

While Grage was out, the Packers switched to a 5-1 offense with Ettinger at setter, Robin Arejes playing in front and Brooke Follmuth playing the back.

Aase had 10 kills and three ace blocks against J/M in the semifinals, while she had just three kills and three ace blocks in the first meeting with the Rockets. Emma Arboe had 12 digs in the title match, Jolene Brody had 10 digs and four kills, and Ettinger had 11 assists.

“They rallied themselves, didn’t let lulls in the game in dealings with the scorers table and referees get to them, and finally adjusted to the volume of the gym and the level of play,” Schneider said. “I’m very proud of their tenacity and their impeccable character. These girls simply don’t give up.”

Arboe had 10 digs in the first match against J/M.

The Packers beat Kasson/Mantorville 25-17, 25-20 in the first match of bracket play.

Brody had nine digs and eight kills while going 100 percent on serves, Grage had 13 assists, Arboe had 14 digs, and Aase had four kills and five ace blocks.
