Leland Arthur Hegna, 98, passed away on March, 13, 2015, at Field Crest Care Center in Hayfield, Minnesota.

Leland was born on Aug. 29, 1916, in Vernon Township, Dodge County, Minnesota, the son of Engval Knute and Maybelle (Hanson) Hegna.

Leland was united in marriage to Cecile Irene Hauglum on Nov. 2, 1940, at West St. Olaf Lutheran Church, and was married for 72 years.

Leland was a life-long farmer, hauled gravel for Dodge County as well as for himself, and drove school bus for Hayfield Public Schools for nearly 30 years. He enjoyed morning coffee with friends at Tiegen’s Oslo Store, in Oslo, Minnesota. After retirement, you could always drive by his home and see Leland mowing his beautiful yard. He loved spending time with family, especially his grandchildren.

Leland is survived by his children: Leslie (Doris Jean) Hegna, Byron, Minnesota; Linda (Clay III) Fisher, Garden Grove, California; Rodney (Jennifer) Hegna, Hayfield, Minnesota; Brenda Hanson, Hayfield, Minnesota; and daughter-in-law, Kathy Hegna of the late Sidney Hegna, Kasson, Minnesota; 20 grandchildren, and 27 great-grandchildren; and sister, Violet Beaver, Kasson, Minnesota.

He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Cecile; daughter, Dorothy; son, Sidney Hegna; and daughter-in-law, JoAnne Hegna; four brothers: Russell Hegna, Victor Hegna, Douglas Hegna, Wesley Hegna; and two sisters: Virginia Blaine and Mavis Seim.

The funeral service for Leland Hegna will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 17, 2015, at Evanger Lutheran Church, 33554 – 660th Avenue, Sargeant, MN, with the Rev. Dwight Dobell officiating. Interment will be in Evanger Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, March 16, 2015, at Czaplewski Family Funeral Home, 501 2nd Street NW in Hayfield, and one hour before the service at the church on Tuesday.
