After a five year hiatus, Ducks Unlimited is coming back to Austin.

Nick Roth, who moved to Austin from Lakeville six months ago, is starting up a chapter and he will kick it off with a banquet called the Sportsman’s Night Out at the Holiday Inn and Convention Center from 6 to 9:30 p.m. on April 2.

Roth, who works at the Holiday Inn and Conference Center, helped start a chapter of Ducks Unlimited in Farmington, and he thinks the organization is a good one to back up.

“I went to my first event and I really wanted to get involved. It’s a cause I really like and it’ll help my kids be able to duck hunt more and more,” Roth said.

Roth grew up hunting, as did his parents. He said Ducks Unlimited does a great job of keeping habitats up for wildlife.

“I like what it represents, and I love running the events,” Roth said. “It’s just one way to help conserve wildlife. With these events, they’re 100 percent non-profit and each sponsor saves one acre of land.”

Roth is hoping to hold one banquet per year, and he’s looking for community members to step up as volunteers. The banquet on April 2 still has tickets available and can be purchased on the Mower County Ducks Unlimited Facebook page or by contacting Roth at 507-481-5403.

“The more support we can get from the community with volunteers, the more wildlife we can help conserve,” Roth said.

LeRoy has had a Ducks Unlimited chapter for more than 30 years.
